Malifaux - Painting Update

Posted by winter on Friday, February 25. 2011 in Wargaming

I've been slack with posting this week (not sure if the regular 5 or so (heh) readers prefer daily posts or bigger posts), but I've thankfully kept up the painting.

I managed to finish off the Seamus crew and have started in on the Ramos crew. Once I get the Ramos crew done I will have 4 crews done and the lads will be forced into playing with me!

Madame Sybelle

Madame Sybelle

I have to say that I really didn't enjoy painting this model. I struggled to come up with colours that I was happy with and whilst I like the red leather bodice, I don't like the stockings, they blend in too much with the colour of the legs. I also need to come up with some other styles of dead flesh. I tried a wash again with Sybelle and whilst I am happier with this version than others, it still doesn't work for me.

Bete Noire

On the other hand, I really enjoyed painting Bete Noire. Initially I had the same problem in that I didn't know how to paint here. I didn't really like the Wyrd colour scheme and was thinking of something pale for everything except the blood. Then I decided that I would go with greys rather than white for everything else in a poor attempt to copy some of the fantastic greyscale miniatures others have painted.

My attempt is obviously fail, but I still like the look of her.

Ramos

Ramos
Ramos has been a lot of fun to paint so far. I have spent quite a while on his coat, doing about 5 layers (though you can't really see any of it in the final product!). I intend to do the flame in his hand in blue and try some object source lighting on it.

His flesh was Tallarn as the base followed by a red and purple wash. I like the look of it and plan to use something similar for the Steamborg Executioner. I also used an extremely thinned down (using matte medium) Dwarf Flesh over the flesh and it works fairly well. One coat is almost invisible and his forehead has about 4 coats. I will be trying something similar for the OSL so that the underlying colour should come through unless I put multiple coats on (which I will do on areas closer to the flame).

I am not so sure about his suit colours, the gradients are very harsh... I may try a black wash over them to see if that smooths it out some. I just noticed the brown that I got on his coat from painting the bag, so I will have to sort that out shortly.
