Cancon 2011 - Malifaux Game 6

Posted by winter on Monday, January 31. 2011 in Wargaming

The hand we all wish to have!
After game 5 I was surprisingly in 1st place! It was however extremely close, with 2 people 1 VP behind me and another person 2 VP behind. For game 6 I was going to play one of the 2nd place players (the player of The Dreamer and LCB in game 3). Lilith (2nd - Game 5) and Ramos (4th - Game 1) were also going to play off.

Cancon 2011 - Malifaux Game 5

Posted by winter on Sunday, January 30. 2011 in Wargaming

Game 5 would see the valiant Guild up against the Mistress of Malifaux herself, Lilith! Along for the ride would be my nemesis Teddy and the terrifying Killjoy. There would also be a bunch of Terror Tots working their way up to Mature Nephilim status. All in all, a very tough crew.

The Strategy was Shared Destroy Evidence which seems to be missing a few words in the rulebook but we worked out some agreeable rules for it. Each player would place 1 piece of evidence wholly within their opponents deployment area and another within 8" of the deployment area. There would be a neutral piece of evidence worth +2 VP in the middle of the board.

Cancon 2011 - Random 40k Pics

Posted by winter on Friday, January 28. 2011 in Wargaming

Doom of Malantai and Drop Pod
Here are some pics I took while wandering around the 40k tables. Some nice looking models and armies out there.

It was also good to see a lot of terrain on the tables, there weren't any bowling greens ;-) Was good to see 100 odd players and quite a few young bloods playing.

Cancon 2011 - Malifaux Game 4

Posted by winter on Friday, January 28. 2011 in Wargaming

Game 4 was a bye due to us only having 5 players. A few of the other players used the bye to go check out the rest of Cancon, but I figured I would do that on Monday (day 3) so the TO (Oracle45 from WargamerAU) and I decided to have a fun game using some models that he hadn't played with before; the Viktorias and assorted Outcasts. I don't remember all the details for the game, but I think I got the basics of it right. Oracle feel free to correct me if I got something drastically wrong!

I was keen to have a look at how they performed as the Viktorias were the second box set that I bought after the Ortegas and I have since painted them and a couple of Ronin so I had planned to give them a go after the tournament. Unfortunately for Oracle, the Strategy meant that he needed to get into my deployment zone and I needed to keep him out and I had guns, lots of guns ;-)

Cancon 2011 - Malifaux Game 3

Posted by winter on Thursday, January 27. 2011 in Wargaming

Game 3 saw the resolute Guild face their darkest nightmares in the form of The Dreamer and his assorted nasties. I had been told by the other players that this was going to be an interesting match, and it certainly was!

The Strategy was Shared Turf War. My announced scheme was Stake A Claim on a piece of wood in the back of The Dreamers deployment zone and another scheme that I can't remember (and didn't achieve). My opponent announced his intention to assassinate Perdita and a hidden scheme.

Cancon 2011 - Malifaux Game 2

Posted by winter on Monday, January 24. 2011 in Wargaming

My second game of Malifaux would see Perdita and her guild forces up against the Ice Queen herself, Rasputina. The followers of December would need to interact with 4 pieces of terrain on my side of the table in order to plant some scurrilous lies (Plant Evidence Strategy) and the Guild would need to escort a wagon full of supplies to the building in the centre of the board (Supply Wagon Strategy).

Cancon 2011 - Malifaux Game 1

There were 3 tables for Malifaux, each with the terrain already set up. The strategies were determined by the TO, though you were free to pick up to 2 schemes. For every scheme that you didn't take, you gained an extra 2 soul stones, meaning you had to choose between opportunities to score more Victory Points or to have more oomph in game.

You could pick any master from your Faction after the strategy was announced. Easy for me as I only have Perdita painted ;-)

Cancon 2011 - Day 1

Posted by winter on Saturday, January 22. 2011

First day of Cancon 2011 today and I have to say that it was a lot of fun and fairly amazing to see so many people having fun and getting their geek on.

I will write up a bit more about each of the 3 Malifaux scraps but for now just some general impressions.

CanCon Tomorrow

Posted by winter on Friday, January 21. 2011 in Wargaming

Headed to CanCon tomorrow, which will be my first large wargaming convention, and only my second convention ever. Will be playing Malifaux rather than 40k this time, which I am fairly keen for.

Managed to finish painting my Guild Austringer tonight and the base for the Executioner arrived so everything I wanted to get painted up for the con is ready to go!
